While New Orleans was enjoying the final weekend of Jazz Fest, the rain was piling up in another great American musical city, Nashville, Tennessee. Pictures of the flooding that occurred during the first week of May may bring back painful memories of the drowning of New Orleans in 2005, but WWOZ would like to encourage listeners in New Orleans and beyond to help our sister city in its time of need.

Musicians from that region including Kenny Chesney, Michelle Branch and Keith Urban are still figuring out what they've lost and have been actively Twittering and sending in photos to news outlets of flooded homes and rehearsal spaces. And the Grand Ole Opry—perhaps the most important venue in country music—was under several feet of water, destroying equipment, one-of-a-kind audio tapes, instruments and other irreplaceable memorabilia.

Nashville Rising: A Benefit Concert

Country stars Tim McGraw and Faith Hill will present Nashville Rising, a benefit concert at Bridgestone Arene on June 22 featuring huge acts like Miley Cyrus, ZZ Top, Lynyrd Skynyrd and many more, with proceeds benefitting the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee Emergency Response Fund.
