While New Orleans was enjoying the final weekend of Jazz Fest, the rain was piling up in another great American musical city, Nashville, Tennessee. Pictures of the flooding that occurred during the first week of May may bring back painful memories of the drowning of New Orleans in 2005, but WWOZ would like to encourage listeners in New Orleans and beyond to help our sister city in its time of need.
Musicians from that region including Kenny Chesney, Michelle Branch and Keith Urban are still figuring out what they've lost and have been actively Twittering and sending in photos to news outlets of flooded homes and rehearsal spaces. And the Grand Ole Opry—perhaps the most important venue in country music—was under several feet of water, destroying equipment, one-of-a-kind audio tapes, instruments and other irreplaceable memorabilia.

nashville concert
Tim McGraw and Faith Hill have arranged a live performance to help support the Tennessee flood initiatives. Nashville Rising, the naming of the show, is a steal of an offer. It will include 14 country artists and admission prices are tiny in comparison. A portion of the profits will be going to help with the recent flood damage done in Tennessee. It is amazing how numerous of the country singers have come together to help recover this little town that had horrible damage, Nashville. This town is famous for country music, and it makes me smile to know the singers aren't likely to let this town go down with the flood.
Thanks for this info!
We'll get something up front and center on wwoz.org ASAP... We're committed to helping out our sister city in music, even if it's with oily hands. :)
Nashville flood
Let's hope that Jim McCormick had better luck in Nashville then he did when Katrina hit 'Nawlins. Bad storms used to follow Kim Carson to Pensacola but I think she's broken that jinx and I'd hate to hear that it's now following Jim. Getting flooded out of your home shouldn't happen to anyone more then once.
Technically...
Getting flooded out of your home shouldn't happen even once. C'est Levee though, eh?
