New Orleans is experiencing a culinary renaissance throughout the city.  In addition to that, neighborhoods throughout New Orleans are being revitalized with old architecture being given new life.  

Today’s program will focus on one such area along an 8-block stretch of Freret Street in the uptown section of New Orleans, between Napoleon and Jefferson, where restaurants, music venues and businesses are opening.    

The Freret Street Festival is an annual celebration taking place on Saturday, April 6th with live music, food and childrens activities.  During the program, we meet up with Greg Ensslen and Michelle Ingram who live in the neighborhood and run the festival.  We’ll also hear from Ms. Linda Green aka the “Yakamein Lady” and winner on the cooking show, “Chopped.”    

The music on the program features artists playing at the Freret Street Festival with the swamp pop of the Creole String Beans, the soul blues of Eric Lindell and the greasy funk of Johnny Sketch & The Dirty Notes.
