Summertime and the living is easy. I hope this 'OZone finds you creating a memorable Summer of 2007 and letting WWOZ provide the soundtrack.
Things are busy at the station, in spite of the rising temperatures and humidity! Included in this 'OZone are just a few highlights I want to share with you.
Thanks to the generous underwriting of 528 Music Club on Fulton Street in New Orleans, we'll be hitting the road in early August to broadcast the Telluride Jazz Celebration live (see the article below). Telluride Jazz Celebration Broadcast Live on WWOZ
Trumpeter Dizzy Gillespie saw many magnificent sights in his role as a cultural ambassador, yet in 1977 when he arrived at the inaugural Telluride Jazz Celebration he exclaimed: "If this ain't paradise, heaven can wait."
World class musical programming — presented in a spectacular setting offering an extraordinary selection of outdoor activities — has established the Telluride Jazz Celebration as one of the most distinctive annual events on the summer music festival circuit. Join WWOZ and your fellow Guardians of the Groove in Telluride, Colorado, August 2nd through 5th as we broadcast live from the 2007 Telluride Jazz Celebration.
Two of WWOZ's best, show host Scott Borne and program director, Dwayne Breashears will be your hosts for the weekend-long live broadcast from The John Scofield Town Park Stage at the Festival. Check out the music planned for the weekend.
When the music ends each day in Telluride, 'OZ will bring you music from New Orleans' Satchmo Fest, happening the very same weekend. The great music never stops! WWOZ's live broadcast of the festival is made possible by a generous sponsorship by the 528 Music Club on Fulton Street in New Orleans.

Essence Festival Comes Home to New Orleans
The Essence Music Festival, the nation's largest annual African-American event celebrating Black music and culture, returned to New Orleans July 5-7, 2007.
The event marked the return of the 13th annual Festival to its original home, since relocating temporarily to Houston in 2006 following the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. The homecoming of the world renowned "party with a purpose" is estimated to have brought more than 200,000 visitors to the City of New Orleans.
WWOZ was invited to participate in Essence Fest as a featured community organization. Director of development Mary Liz Keevers, underwriting representative Carmen Post (pictured above at the 'OZ booth), and volunteers Susan Mahaffey, Matt Devitt and Hardy Darring provided information about WWOZ to hundreds of interested visitors during the three-day event.
Voodoo Music Experience adds a Third Day
Those of you who joined us last year with special WWOZ Voodoo Passes know what a fantastic time this is! Stay tuned, because WWOZ will once again have special Voodoo Passes to offer, and we want you to join us for the fun and to meet the artists at the WWOZ stage. As soon as the 'OZ passes are available, we will email you to let you know.
Set for Halloween weekend in City Park, New Orleans' signature fall music event encompasses three full days of music — October 26, 27 and 28 — with performances from Wilco, Tiesto in Concert, Kings of Leon, Sinead O'Connor, Common, Ben Harper and Galactic, among others.These acts will appear in the Voodoo Music Experience's three distinct performance areas — Le Ritual, Le Flambeau and Le Carnival — each of which highlights a unique side of the personality of New Orleans.
In its ninth consecutive year, the Voodoo Music Experience will take place again this year in City Park near the New Orleans Museum of Art. Check out the Voodoo lineup for 2007.

Radio Tribute to George Brumat of Snug Harbor Jazz Bistro
George Brumat, owner of Snug Harbor, a jazz bistro in the Faubourg Marigny, passed away on July 7th, 2007, at the age of 63. He opened Snug Harbor in 1983, well before Frenchman Street (where the club is located) was the music oasis it is today.
His dedication to the contemporary jazz scene, both locally and nationally, helped build a club that in many ways stands on its own in the New Orleans music scene. Listen to WWOZ Street Talk's audio essay on George Brumat.
