2020 Crescent City Blues & BBQ Festival: Festing In PlaceThis weekend, October 16-18, we'll be partnering with the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation to present a virtual Crescent City Blues & BBQ Festival, both on the air and online. Our video team has recorded many past festivals, and we'll be re-streaming some of our favorite sets. You can watch for free on YouTube, Facebook, and wwoz.org; or, you can listen on the air at 90.7 FM in New Orleans or at wwoz.org/listen everywhere else. » Blues & BBQ Fest cubes & more For details on takeout food options from the regular festival food vendors, check out |

Fall Membership Drive Shout-OutsWe appreciate everyone who made our recent Fall Membership Drive a rousing success. As always, the first thank-yous go to our members, both new and renewing (Guardians of the Groove one and all) and to our listeners, the world's greatest audience. A special shout-out to our Membership team (KaTrina Griffin, Melanie Merz, Ashli Richard Morris, and Monica Landry), who put together a socially-distanced drive without our traditional live in-studio performances. |

WWOZ's 40th BirthdayWWOZ turns 40 on December 4th this year, we're cooking up a special celebration -- 40 Days for 40 Years, a countdown to our birthday in December, showcasing high points from all through our history. We'll have amazing live concerts we've recorded and broadcast from across New Orleans, plus classic programs with show hosts from our past, including Big Mama, Ernie K-Doe, Billy Delle, and many others. We'll also be bringing you the history of 'OZ through the years, from upstairs at Tipitina's to Armstrong Park to the French Market, told in the voices of those who were there. And be sure to follow us on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, for great photos and more. The countdown begins October 26 -- don't miss any of it! |

Volunteer Spotlight: Holden MauckWe're pleased to shine a spotlight on recent Loyola graduate Holden Mauck, who spent two semesters as a WWOZ intern in 2019-20, mostly working with our video and engineering departments. Here's what Holden says about his OZ experience: "I was very pleasantly surprised to see how many locals and musicians around the city would come by the station or call up one of my supervisors just to catch up as friends. There is an unbreakable sense of community vested between WWOZ, the artists, and their listeners. I am hoping for a career in entertainment, and WWOZ provided me with the hands on experience and people skills needed for the job." We thank Holden for his dedication and strong work ethic. |

OnlineWire Virtual Gig CalendarYou can stay home and still support live, local music: our WWOZ OnlineWire, a calendar of virtual gigs, will be standing in for the regular WWOZ Livewire for as long as it takes! You can see performances happen on a variety of platforms, mostly social media. We're sharing links when and where we can. Many musicians are offering digital "tip jars" via Venmo or other payment systems during these sets. And be on the lookout for many of New Orleans' famous clubs and other venues, who are putting together regular weekly schedules for streaming sets. |

Recipe: Kermit Ruffins' Barbecue Smoked TurkeyThis recipe's a great read and so full of Kermit's personality. The first two ingredients are a "couple of Louis Armstrong records" and an "ice chest full of beer." It would also go perfectly with festing in place during our broadcast of the Crescent City Blues & BBQ Festival (see above). |
