150 Photos for 2018From among thousands of shots, we've selected about a hundred and fifty photos of this year's in-studio performances, festivals, parades, pledge drives, and other events. Big thanks to all the volunteer photographers whose work is represented in this amazing Flickr set. WWOZ's Tricentennial Music MomentsAs New Orleans turned 300 this year, WWOZ marked the occasion with our Tricentennial Music Moments. Beloved New Orleans musicians and personalities have entertained, informed, and surprised us with great moments from 300 years of music history in the Crescent City, like John Goodman on Harold Battiste, Jr. or Harry Shearer on Sidney Bechet. Our most recent episode: Irma Thomas on Mahalia Jackson. |

In Memoriam: Billy DelleLongtime WWOZ show host Billy Delle passed away recently at the age of 76. Billy was one of the longest serving volunteer show hosts at WWOZ, arriving in 1982, and doing his final sign-off in 2011. He hosted "Records From The Crypt" which largely consisted of "scratchy 45s," as he referred to them, of New Orleans R&B from the 1950s and 1960s. Billy was beloved by listeners locally and internationally as a fount of knowledge regarding that era of New Orleans music, often drawing from his personal repository of memories and experiences from the time. He encouraged listeners to "open your windows, open your doors, and let the music flow out into the street." Miss you, Billy! |

WWOZ is 38!We celebrated our 38th birthday last week; by way of marking the occasion, we had a day-long special show, during which some 32 musical acts dropped by for solo live performances in our studio. Not in our performance studio, but the actual broadcast studio, right next to the show hosts. Check out this giant gallery of photos from all throughout the day. |

Recipes: Nuts for the HolidaysThis month we have three recipes for preparing nuts for the holidays: a very simple procedure for simple Glazed Pecans; a somewhat more complex recipe for savory Spicy Peanuts (or almonds, if you prefer); and finally, Cinnamon Pecans, which require a bit of candy-making technique. All three make excellent holiday snacks. |
