Elsa Hahne and Golden G. Richard III's exhibition of 29 music photos, "Blood, Sweat & Hair," opened at the Jazz & Heritage Gallery (1205 N. Rampart) on Saturday, November 14 and will be running through Friday, December 18. The 29 photos are a retrospective of music images captured over the years by the photography duo. Hahne is the art director for OffBeat Magazine and has worked consistently as a high-level freelance live music photographer. Richard is a freelance photographer and professor of computer science at the University of New Orleans.
The works, which date from 2009 to 2015, feature many classic Louisiana artists, including Allen Toussaint, Dr. John, Buckwheat Zydeco, Tab Benoit, the Preservation Hall Jazz Band and the Andrews Brothers – Glen David, James and Troy (aka Trombone Shorty). Among the roots music artists shown are the Hot 8 Brass Band, Anders Osborne, Mardi Gras Indians Monk Boudreaux and Bo Dollis and the bluesman James Cotton.
The exhibition also includes edgier elements, like images of the hard rock bands Gwar, Rob Zombie, Zakk Wylde’s Black Label Society, Barge to Hell, Death Angel and Slaves on Dope. There are also shots of George Clinton of Parliament/Funkadelic, Jack White, New Orleans bounce rappers Big Freedia and Cheeky Blakk, and jazz singers Ingrid Lucia and Meschiya Lake.
The exhibit is available to view during normal gallery hours: Monday through Friday, 10:30a to 4:30p.
